White room

One of the more ridiculous hotel rooms I've stayed in over the years. This is in Brussels, an Apart'Hotel, one of the chains that have sprung up recently that provide accommodation without the nuisance of human contact. This has three clear benefits: for customers, it means there are no annoying and unpredictable interactions with hotel staff, just the calm certainty that any problems will fail to be resolved by a phone line to an unknown place that never seems to answer; for (former) hotel staff, a relief from the necessity to get up and go to work or the anxiety of deciding how to spend ones wages; for the owners of the chain, increased profits enabling them to open more robotels and drive out the traditional model. So it's win-win-win. Plus for failed interior designers, a chance to finally practice their non-existent skills and give reality to their bizarre ideas - like a totally white glaring room, with a meaningless sketch of 'woman' on the wall (helpfully behind the bed where it can't be seen too much) and an overlarge display of cookbooks so that one can really make good use of the microwave and avoid those terrible Brussels cafes, bars and restaurants. Really, what's not to like?
