Y Garn

Best day yet! We climbed Y Garn (947m) from the Ogwen Cottage, up the north-east ridge then back down Devil's Kitchen and round Llyn Idwal.

This shot doesn't really capture the scale of things but it shows Jayne just reaching the summit, followed by Sarah and Sara. Stan and Chris are out of shot over the summit and Ann, Andrew and I are bringing up the rear (also not shown).

The climb was very steep and the wind very strong (60 miles/hour according to the sign at Ogwen Cottage when we got back), making us feel incredibly exposed as we came up the ridge towards the peak. We'd already had one member of the team in tears as we climbed so I was wondering if we'd chosen the right route but it all worked out alright in the end. The climb down past Devil's Kitchen was reasonably easy (they've added large stone steps to the top part of the path) - much easier than I thought it might be. Phew.

The route took us about 4 and a half hours in all. Perfect training for our attempt on Snowdon on Thursday.
