Life in Sunny Dubai

Dubai Tour...

That's what this newly launched cycle race is going to be called. Sprung up on us (the general populous) rather suddenly as we only heard about it the day before it started - a four day race which today saw the riders head out towards Hatta which is where we needed to go too as G is due a visa run. I knew from the past two days that roads would be closed and couldn't imagine how we could get to see them but armed with lots of hope and a few snacks, we set off.

Hit the first road closure within 20 minutes and had to do a detour. Somehow managed to see them all riding by on big junction. G was able to jump out of the car and take some shots. Went on and did the visa run and on the way back; missed being stopped at another road closure by seconds. We saw a family waiting by the roadside so knew we weren't too late. Got out and walked a short distance to be rewarded by the competitors coming down a winding mountain road for the last 3km of the day! SO AMAZING. Couldn't have planned it better if we had tried! More pictures here.

Home in time for a cup of tea, dinner and to watch the Opening Ceremony of Sochi 2014. FANTASTIC! Loved the team from Bermuda in their red shorts and navy blazers. Can't believe there was even a tiny delegate from Pakistan! I LOVE the Winter Games!

PS. Large is good!
