Blind Faith

Just finished reading Ben Elton's dystopian novel "Blind Faith"; topically enough, it's set in a future where climate change has caused global flooding, leaving London as an archipelago. The country is run by an evangelical, fundamentalist church which encourages everyone to share their every thought and emotion and stream every detail of their personal and sexual lives on social media. Privacy and secrets are regarded as heresy and the secret police are permanently watching for heretics. Not that far-fetched really! I've read several of Ben Elton's novels now and he certainly spins a good yarn.

The blip is of the 'alternative' cover for Blind Faith's 1970 album, which an old schoolfriend drew for me: we were in the 6th form at the time and the original cover, featuring a topless adolescent girl caused a great deal of controversy and neither of us liked it so John drew these portraits of the band members (Steve Winwood, Eric Clapton, Ginger Baker and Rick Grech) and it's stayed on my copy ever since.

This clip of them performing In The Presence Of The Lord at their 1969 debut appearance at Hyde park seemed to fit the theme of the book well; it also gives a chance about 3 minutes in to compare the artwork with the original, as well as featuring some nifty photography.

#3 Blind Faith by Ben Elton
