Dounans Centre, Aberfoyle

Yet another damp, dull and cold day but at least without the gales being suffered elsewhere in the country.
This is Dounans centre on the outskirts of Aberfoyle. It is set in fairly spacious grounds and consists of several dormitory buildings alone with a hall and dining room. in my early teaching days Dounans was the venue for the West Lothian Schools' Summer camp which provided a week of outdoor activities and a short holiday for secondary pupils. There was sailing, orienteering and tennis amongst other things and in the evening discos and entertainment. It may sound quite tame for todays youngsters but at that time (early 70s ) it was quite an adventure for the young people and for some their only real holiday or time away on their own.
the centre is I think still used as an Outdoor Education Centre by a range of organisations. Although not seen today at its best, it does sit among some beautiful country side.
