Spinning rust

Very busy today, especially as I had to work late as well.

After dinner I found a screw that was covered with a label and was able to complete the dismantling of the hard disk that I blipped the controller board off. It's an impressive beast, the spindle has 10 platters on it, which is a lot more than a modern drive, it's also an impressive 4 cm thick and heavy enough to seriously hurt you if you dropped it. It also only holds 2.1 GB, less than a DVD or cheap SD card in a camera...

I picked this shot as it looks quite architectural.

I remember many years ago when hard disk were very expensive and even smaller than this being at a computer fair when someone dropped a brand new drive onto a concrete floor - it made an impressive SMACK and it never worked again...
