Returning to Normal

It was wonderful to see a spectacular sunrise this morning, followed shortly by the frenetic activity of male robins staking out their territory before the females arrive. Food seemed to be the first order of business for this one, who had been digging in the soil under our cedar tree in search of breakfast.

Food was also on the mind of this squirrel, the first I'd seen since our big snowfall. I'd put out some slivered almonds on the open ground under our deck, but hadn't seen any squirrels avail themselves of such an easy meal until this morning.

This one seemed quite hungry -- for example, not bothering to drop the dried leaf it had picked up along with the almond -- but after several minutes of focused eating, it did take time to bury a dozen or so almond pieces.

I can relate, as I have stashes of chocolate in several locations "just in case"!
