Strange wee bird!

I was feeling a bit better today, not quite so breathless but still coughing. Mum and Jim came down for a visit and took me out for lunch. We went to Herges on the Loch in Tweedbank, the food there is just amazing!

I saw this bird swimming on the loch, it was probably some kind of duck but smaller than a mallard. I have tried to identify it using the RSPB website but I have had no luck. It's not a great shot as it was dull and raining but I was hoping that someone out in Blipland might know what it is as I've never seen him/her there before.
