Monday 25 June 2007: "One More Leading Nowhere Just For Show"
There's something odd about stairs that lead nowhere. These particular ones are near our band rehearsal studios in Portobello.
As I was snapping away and generally having a nose about, a guy pulled up in a van, asking if he could help me. I explained I was curious about the stairs, fully expecting him to tell me to bugger off.
Instead, he said it was the last remaining bit of a modern office block that had been demolished not long ago: it had been owned by the power company. He seemed baffled as to why: "Seems a shame. It would have made fantastic offices," he said, "for somebody."
He thought for a moment. "Just not for them, I suppose."
