A time for everything

A touch of local culture

Sunday
Weather-wise the day was rather disappointing for the last full day of our holiday, being mainly overcast, which together with the ever-present wind, made it rather cool. However, we didn't let it spoil the day. We spent the morning in the former capital and oldest town of Lanzarote, Teguise, where there is a huge market on Sunday mornings, and music and dancing by men and women in traditional dress. Unfortunately, by the time we came upon them, there was already a good crowd gathered, so it was difficult to get good photos. We found a lovely crepe place for lunch, down one of the quiet alleys lined with the usual low white-washed buildings. There was live music here also, provided by a couple of young men, playing guitar and singing - they were very good. In the afternoon we went to the coast at Costa Teguise and walked along the front for a while before finding somewhere a little sheltered from the wind and read our books for a while. Finally, we found a cafe and had a drink overlooking the lovely beach before returning to our hotel and starting to pack - "all good things must come to an end", as they say!
