Repairs

This afternoon I popped up onto the church roof to see how the repairs are coming on.
Things are certainly moving apace as the last time I was up here they were in the process of discovering how bad the roof timbers were, they were very bad and all had to be replaced.
Now this part of the of the roof has a new wooden lining and an almost finished lead top.
It's interesting to see that lead is still the best material to waterproof a roof and it's secured with copper ties and nails, exactly the same way that the old roof had been laid.
Lead is such a great material to use and completely recyclable as the old lead roof was melted down an turned into new sheets.
The only problem with lead is that it's really heavy!
