Wood carver

The day started very overcast - the snow that was forecast didn't happen, at least not down in the valley! However, my mid morning the sun was out once again.

Had a wander round Lech and visited a shop selling wooden figurines. The wood carver, featured in the photo, is often seen at work in the shop. The carvings are incredible. When you look at the size of his hands, it is amazing how intricate the detail is - the painted versions are simply beautiful. I bought a gentleman hill walker, dressed in the typical Austrian tyrol style. I'll have to blip it at a later date. The wood carver is such a jolly fellow and his face has such character, that he just had to be my blip for today.

After lunch, took a cable car up to Oberlech (which is about halfway up the mountain) with my mum, sister and aunts Rosemary and Astrid. Had a wander round and stopped off in a lovely restaurant for some apple fritters and vanilla cream. Spent the rest of the afternoon here before returning back down in the cable car.
