Laid to rest

Our beautiful cat Moritz who featured in my blip on Sunday disappeared on Monday night and it was not until yesterday that we learnt he has been killed on the road, which is some distance away but lethally fast.

Last night the driver responsible came looking for the owner of the cat he had hit. It was a very decent thing to do and he was profoundly remorseful, being a cat lover himself. It was at least a relief to know that Moritz had been killed instantaneously.
He fetched Moritz's body so that we were able to bury him in the garden, wrapped in a coffee sack, at sunset today beside the graves of several other cats.

Moritz, aka Belly Boy, was just short of 11 months old and with his sister Truffle has been blipped numerous times since his birth on April 28th last year. We will remember his cuddly amiable nature, his big paws and luxuriant coat, his clumsy clownish antics and his habits of shredding newspaper with his claws and of keeping a collection of rotting shrews under the fridge. There were five there when we checked.
