4000 Islands

Well we woke up to the sound of power tools as construction started just before 7am!!! It was ok as we were leaving at this time anyway and so just paid less than we owed and left. We headed for 4000 Islands which is in the south of Laos right on the Cambodian border. The bus was pretty bad and was packed full of people travelling south. It was that busy plastic seats were given to people who were in the aisle to sit on. A man was getting off pretty early on in the journey and to save time him and his kid just went out the window. Lol.

After a small boat ride we arrived on the island of Don Dhet and found a small shack to spend the night for only £2. The place was built right on the Mekong, where we had our own hammocks. It was very basic but a great place to just chill out and relax something alison normally is unable to do. For lunch we went next door to a place called "crazy gecko" for an amazing Lao curry.

We went and hired a scooter to go around the island the next day and spent about 15 mins with the man who couldn't speak English going over the price. He's a really nice man and every time we drive past him he waves and smiles. In the afternoon we went and paid into our new accommodation which is called "the last resort". This place looks so cool and is 5 purpose built tepees and a great outdoor recreational area. I'm really looking forward to staying here tomorrow.

At night we just sat on the balcony looking onto the river thinking how lucky we are and how today has been so amazing. I thought the more I travelled the less impressed I would be but this is the complete opposite. Everyday I think how lucky I am and wish we could share these experiences with our friends and family. Living the dream!!!!
