Camellia

There is a beautiful flowering shrub a few doors down and across our street. The flowers are variegated with deep and light shades of pink. Some are mostly deep pink, others are mostly light pink, while the pinks in others are more equal. It was surprising to see the bush in full bloom so early in the season.

White camellias are a symbol of women's right to vote in New Zealand and are featured on the ten dollar note.
