Golden Shades of Autumn

Today I took my cousin out for her belated birthday .. seeing I was away when it was her birthday. We went to see the film 'The Monuments Men' followed by lunch. The film has had a number of bad writes ups, but we both enjoyed it and it was interesting to know about the task to rescue art masterpieces from Nazi thieves and return them to their owners.

It has been another beautiful day so I stopped of on my way home in the CBD and took a short walk around to see what changes that have happened in the past few days. Took a number of shots.. chose to blip this one because it shows the wonderful Autumn tones and our Avon River.

The Māori name for the Avon River is Ōtākaro with the meaning "the place of a game", is so named after the children who played on the river’s banks as the food gathering work was being done.

Springs feeding into the river were used by tohunga for healing purposes. These were sited in the Ōrakipaoa (Fendalton) area in the Wairarapa and Waiwhetū streams.

The Canterbury Museum holds some important Māori taonga (treasured possessions) that have been recovered from Ōtākaro, including a canoe paddle made of mānuka.

Taken from and for more information.

Thankyou very for helping my shot yesterday of the Pier hitting the spotlight.
