A Reminder

Yesterday I showed the loads of pollen that were being brought back to the hive by my honeybees.

It may surprise you but a lady called Dorothy Hodges in 1952 first published a book entitled The Pollen Loads of the Honeybee. It was priced 21/- if that means anything now.

I grant you that it was never going to be a best seller. However her research was meticulous and here is a page with colour diagram (a little faded now) showing you how to recognise the pollen that is being collected by bees at this time in the early spring.

Fortunately my identification yesterday, of the pollen loads on my bees appears to be correct!
