Not the Northern Lights

Last chance to see the lights last night and it was thick cloud when we went to bed.

We had signed up for an Aurora alarm call and at 4am we were phoned by reception to say the Northern Lights had appeared. Unfortunately it was very fleeting and right down on the horizon behind a cloud. However the sky had cleared and I thought I would do a few startrails before going back to bed.

Our hotel is in the most bizarre location in the middle of a lava field in an enormous volcanic crater. Behind the hotel is an enormous geothermal power station and the lava fields around the hotel are criss-crossed with coloured steam pipes. It looks how I imagine a moon or martian base would be.

A side effect of the power station is blue coloured hot brine that floods part of the lava field. It is called The Blue Lagoon and is where we are off to now for a dip and some skin rejuvenation before we return home this afternoon.

If I get a better picture than this during the day I may replace this one.

PS I have decided to stick with the startrails but here is a link to the Blue Lagoon which Technophobe has described with great accuracy
