La vie d'un écrivain

Today had a shaky start as we drove through a sleet storm on the dual carriageway north from Nantes to Brest and witnessed four separate accidents.

We arrived mid-afternoon at the Art Deco Continental Hotel in Brest just in time for the first of three interviews - two for the press and one for local TV. Head still buzzing from all the French, it was straight off to the gigantic Dialogues bookstore for an event that was so over-subscribed, they fed a TV signal to an audience of readers on the next floor - almost 200 in total. Janice blipped the moment here.

An hour-long discourse about the Lewis books followed, with a further hour of signing, before we eventually escaped to a seafood restaurant down at the docks, with these two lovely young ladies from the bookstore, Laurence (who chaired the event) and Marion, who informed us that I was now the best selling crime writer in Brittany. Well... there do have to be some consolations! :)

And in other news, "The Blackhouse" last week made it into the USA Today bestsellers list, which is amazing for a book published there in 2012. The paperback comes out in August.

Altogether, a good day!
