Accidental Tourist in London

Before today, I was last on the London DLR 12 years ago. My memory is one of a slow journey, not many people using it, loads of stops, and not much more than industrial sites to see on the way.

What a difference a decade makes to the landscape. Today's trip to London for work led me to see some iconic sights for the few pounds fare from Stratford to London Ciry airport.

The millennium dome is now the O2 and isn't just a building stuck out on its own, the Emirates Airline gondola is new, the Olympic venues and village has been constructed and used, the Thames Barrier which was on television daily with the Thames floods this winter, the Eurostar stations now exist, there is building cranes everywhere you look, London City Airport is in the midst of a great renovation, and the backdrop for the journey is Canary Wharf/ Thames/ Excel.

The DLR is now a nice way to get an East London development snapshot, in just 10 minutes.
