Sunday 6 December 2009: Demolition Graveyard

I quite like the idea of a graveyard for the remains of these demolished multi-story high-rise monstrosities!

On 30th November at 04:13 am two of Glasgow's Sighthill high rise flats were demolished. The timing meant that not many people were around to see it but the reasons given were 'security' and also the fact that they are only a few metres from a main railway line so they wanted to avoid disruption. However demolition in the dark was a first in the City.

The 44,000 tons of rubble is mostly being recycled. What is currently left at the site is just next to Sighthill Cemetery and with a telephoto lens it looks like its part of it.

The picture isn't as sharp as I would have liked as I had to handhold in poor light. I felt that setting up a tripod in a cemetery would have seemed disrespectful.
