Fun in Battambang

The sleep wasn't to bad but I still woke up early due to me being in the "crystal dome" due to the fans. I hired a scooter from the hostel and after some breakfast, we were off on an adventure. The first stop was the bamboo train which is a "train" that can be taken to pieces in less than 30 seconds. So we were speeding down the train line and met another train coming the other way head on. They both just stopped and took our train apart and let them pass through before assembling it again. This was pretty touristy but still really good fun.

We jumped back on the scooter and headed to a place called Banan to visit an old temple at the top of a hill. It was only 358 steps to the top but in the heat it made me a sweaty mess. The top was really nice and would have offered stunning views if the Cambodians would stop burning everything.

SOA new members jumped back on our automatic scooter and headed towards the "killing caves". These caves were used in the Khmer Rouge era to kill its enemies by throwing them down a big hole. It's a pretty eerie place and had the usual skulls and bones in place just incase you didn't believe the story. At the bottom of this hill there is a cave that you can't enter as it's filled with millions of bats. We waited till about 6pm before the bats started to leave the cave!! It was really cool and lasts for about 40 minutes until the cave is empty.

It was getting dark so we had to scoot back to the hostel to sort our lives out as were getting a night bus in a few hours. We ordered a Khmer curry from the hostel and it was absolutely delicious. After dinner it was quiz time and our team consisted of me, Alison and a guy from Holland. We came third which was pretty impressive considering the size of some of the other teams. The man in charge gave us best team name and we got a free skittle vodka. Cheers to the "Dutch Doggers" which is a hard thing to explain to someone who doesn't know what a dogger is!!!!!
