Grant, the pilot, agreed to a photo as long as I was quick, because he was only allowed out of the cockpit for long enough to take a bathroom break. Which is why, just out of shot, Grant’s legs are crossed.

Anita, one of the cabin crew, later explained that the regulations allowed the pilots to leave their posts for short breaks as long as there was always at least one of them left in the cockpit.
