Avocets

Time to leave the cottage and head home, but not before stopping off at Cley Marshes with David & Clare. Definitely the highlight were the 180+ Avocets, although RCB has chosen to blip a Marsh Harrier, his best shot from the 500+ he took of this showy bird. Unfortunately we failed to find Clare a Bearded Tit and she and David headed off mid afternoon. Mrs L and I had another browse round but finding nothing new we finally returned to the car park. Another couple stopped us and asked if we'd just come from the Simmond's Scrape hide. They'd seen, from the visitor centre, what they thought was a Great White Egret fly in, but the warden wasn't certain. We set our scope up in the car park and there right in front of the hide was unmistakeably a Great White Egret. Mrs L was didn't fancy a walk all the way back to the hide, but its closeness tempted me. Of course once I arrived it had flown to the back of the pool, but I got a few reasonable record shots anyway.
