Woy Woy Moorings

"Woy Woy" is supposed to mean "much water" in the local aboriginal dialect. Spike Milligan used to call it the "only above ground cemetery" in the world. But he used to visit it not infrequently because his mother lived there. If the Central Coast is really about waterside living and traditional style boating, then about the best place to go is good ole Woy Woy.

There are no gin palaces and plastic fantastics around here. This is literally a mud flat backwater where the proletariat do their boating. Some of the eccentric old vessels along the little beach, here are 50 years old or more. The beat up old fibre glass launches that appear here are about as modern as it gets. What I especially like is the line of posts and make-shift personal jetties which have long passed their "used by" dates. They stand as a series of creative sculptures guarded by pelicans, ducks and silver gulls.
