Upper Puyallup River - Orville Road

Last summer Pierce County built multiple large engineered logjams and a log revetment to protect a road that had suffered chronic flood damages on the Upper Puyallup River. This reach of river is highly dynamic in response to the removal of the historic floodplain forest, sediment supply coming from Mt Rainier, the steep gradient, and large flows characteristic of PacNW. So far the ELJs are doing great and in the coming few years we should be able to present some great monitoring data.
