Away from home.

Walk on by.

Far below the rooftop swimming pool of my hotel is Hong Kong's Victoria Park. An expanse of Tarmac 5-a-side pitches, basketball courts and serried ranks of palm trees gives way to a lush woodland. It's a big space, nestled between two major arterial roads.

On Sundays, if it's dry, the park is packed with thousands of the city's domestic workers, enjoying their day off in a weekly jamboree of chat, food, hair plaiting and general good times. I'd say it's a 99% female crowd, give or take.
