Hangers on.

Buff-tailed Queen Bumblebee with mites!

Lovely sunny day and I noticed her waving at me from the pink saxifrage. On first inspection, I thought she had pollen around her neck, and then I saw it move!
Worried, I went on-line. Lots of info at;

You'll be pleased to know that these rather repulsive looking beasties around Her Majesty's neck and waist are harmless to bees. The mites are just hitching a lift to the next nest when the Queen emerges in Spring after hibernation. They feed on wax, pollen and nest debris and are only a problem if there are so many of them that the Queen can't achieve lift-off.

Know the feeling.
