The Burning Issue

The mountain was set alight last night, smoke filled the air, birds abandoned their nests and small creatures must have been running for their lives. It is illegal to burn after the 31st March because of the nesting season. However this is ignored by many, not all farmers are in favour of burning, or if they are it's in a very controlled and limited way at the appropriate time and under constant supervision. Others light fires and disappear and the fire is left to run it's course, an intense fire can cause so much damage to the root structure of plants, which may lead to soil erosion and loss.
Patches of Bog Myrtle shining red in the evening sun, layers of yellow Fernane Grass and patches of burnt ground.
