The Kelpies - Day One

Ok, I lied.

To be fair though, we were in the area (Samantha had an appointment at the nearby hospital, hopefully one of the last for a long time), it was a Bank Holiday, I'd had my Flying Start breakfast from the local Morrisons and the weather was absolutley perfect. Couldn't not swing by.

Really glad we did go though. After watching their construction from a distance since last August it was great to get up close and personal with the metallic giants. They're so huge it was catching out a lot of people trying to snap them - they kept having to walk further and further back to squeeze them in. Against the blue sky and with the hundreds of tiny people swarming around in the sunshine they still look a bit surreal in the landscape, almost look like they've been photoshopped in.

Listening to the reaction from many and watching some just stop and stare as one Kelpie casts a steely stare right back it looks like it won't be long before these modern masterpieces are at the top of the tourist must-see lists.
