Relay Day

It was the fourth and final day of the JK Orienteering Festival in South Wales today. Teams of three compete in different age classes, for example my team was age group women 165 + (three women whose combined ages = 165 +). We finished in seventh place which we were very pleased with considering the tussocky terrain and our dead legs!

My blip is of some of the men's classes first leg mass start. When the klaxon sounds they open their maps and head to the start kite to plan and execute their courses. When they have finished they pass on to their second, then third leg runner.

The rough start area contrasted markedly to the cropped grass of the old slag heaps which we navigated up, over and around on our courses. Across the valley is the now tourist attraction of The Big Pit, once a full on working coal mine employing hundreds of men in this area. All of that industry has now gone....

Probably best to look in LARGE.
