Crichton Castle

Crichton Castle is at the head of the River Tyne, near the village of Crichton, Midlothian. It was built in the late 14th century as a tower house but was extended and reconstructed in the fifteenth century.
In 1956, the castle was given into state care by its owner, Major Henry Callander of Preston Hall. It was used as a location in the 1995 film Rob Roy. It is now an ancient monument administered by Historic Scotland.

Today nine of us did a recce for a club walk which finished at the castle. After such sunny weather over the last few days, the weather forecast for today was a bit grim, with rain expected. However, we were lucky as we did not get wet at all, although at times we were in the mist.

Nice viewed in large mode!
