Low Tech, High Tech

If you have ever bought a solar panel and then sat back and marvelled at its ability apparently to produce energy from nothing, you can be excused for thinking that you are up to date and a wizz with modern technology.

Not a bit of it.

Here you see the original solar panel at work (it must be at least sixty years old).

The suns rays pass through the double glazing and then heat up disused beeswax combs that are placed on a metal tray inside the wooden box.

The wax then melts and drips through a strainer in to a collector ready for re-use.

The low tech bit is that I have to periodically turn the wheelbarrow in order to keep it facing the sun.
