Life in Newburgh on Ythan

The Blue Lagoon

The weather has turned rather Arctic today, so time for a bit of warming nostalgia.

Last night Mrs T and I watched The Blue Lagoon the 1980 film starring the young Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins. The film tells the story of two young children marooned on a tropical island paradise in the South Pacific. With neither the guidance nor the restrictions of society, emotional feelings and physical changes arise as they reach puberty and they fall in love and produce a son.

The Blue Lagoon is to be found in Fiji next to Nanuya and Sawa-i-Lau, islands in the Yasawa group.

It took us back to one of the best days out of our lives. We hired a small flying boat on mainland Fiji and flew the full length of the Yasawas before landing on the Blue Lagoon. We enjoyed a wonderful day of snorkelling, a champagne lunch on the beach and swimming in the flooded cathedral-like limestone caves on Sawa-i-Lau. And, best of all, we didn't see another living soul all day!
