Svolvær

The main task today was crossing the Vestfjord from Bodø to Svolvær in the Lofoten Islands.

I had assumed that the boat would simply head straight across the fjord, but was delighted to find that the route goes to a string of little harbours and hamlets along the mainland side of the fjord north from Bodø before turning west.

The trip, using the express ferry rather than the big Hurtigruten boat, is definitely recommended, particularly if you can arrange for a bright sunny evening for the journey so that the Nordland mountains are lit up.

This is the main harbour in Svolvaer, with some typical Lofoten mountains behind. You can expect to see more Lofoten mountains over the next few days, provided the weather co-operates.
