Birch Fungus. GX1, Elmar 135mm.

I set off today to a nearby Audubon Society Habitat hoping to find some birds in spring mood. A lot of tweeting but no action despite having taken a medium tele lens with for the occasion. As I was scanning the trees, hopeful of hitting the jackpot and finding an owl roosting there ... (hope springs eternal), I noticed several of these quite large fungi growing, high up off the side of a birch trunk. The 135mm Elmar was perfect to draw them in close. Its 12-bladed aperture diaphragm makes for lovely out-of-focus, round highlights. My expedition wasn't a complete loss.
