Under the Stars at the Church of the Good Shepherd

Another starlight blip from Lake Tekapo, this time down by the water at the gorgeous lakeside Church of the Good Shepherd.

I captured this image at about 1.30am. After coming down from the highs of Mount John (pick your meaning there) I went back to the motel to upload yesterday's blip (thanks for the stars and hearts by the way) and then headed out to see what else I could find. On my first visit the church grounds were full of other photographers doing their thing, so I took a trip in the car up the hill, back into the Mackenzie basin on the route to Burkes Pass. I was almost stopped in my tracks by a bright glowing green meteorite that disappeared not far from me. Taking this as an omen I decided to turn round and head back to Tekapo.

Upon my return the church was once more empty, so I proceeded to set up my tripod and take a series of images at various focal lengths and positions around the church.

This was one of my favourites - again using the excellent Samyang 14mm f/2.8. I like the way the steps lead you up to the church, and of course, that amazing spectacle of the galactic centre of the Milky Way arcing across the sky.
