Beaumairis Pier After £5.7M Upgrade.....

Today we started out going to a National Trust Property, Penrhyn Castle, the best we have seen to date, built by the Pennant Family in the 19th Century although some of it dates back further. The Family made their money from Sugar in the West Indies, which also means from Slaves too, but they rarely mention that.
The also owned the largest slate mine in the world at the time, once again the made money from the workers of the mines and tile making side, keeping 28% of all money earned for "Wastage", they wouldn't do that nowadays I bet.

In the Afternoon we crossed the Britannia bridge over the Menai Straights to another house, this time Plas Newydd, there has been a Manor house on the site since 14th century and the Chapel floor and stained glass has been incorporated in the newer chapel inside the house. Once owned by the second in charge of the army Marquis of Uxbridge, and at Waterloo he lost a leg, the false wooden one is on show.
Once again the family made their money from Slate from the surrounding area, and one mine is still working today. They even put in all the surrounding roads including the A5 to Holyhead so the slate could be exported all over the world.

By late afternoon we headed off to Beaumaris as the last time I was here the Pier was undergoing a revamp and there was scaffolding all over it making my image very untidy, so I revisited it to get a better shot or shots of it.
Then back to the van for Diner and a few glasses of Red wine.
