on Downeen Point

A better day, bright, and breezy but not with the gale force winds of yesterday.
This morning we worked in the garden while our Taiwanese tourist photographed us. He is writing a book about his travels, and now ourselves and our garden are part of his travels and as such have to be documented. I dread to think what he is going to write about us, and it's strange to imagine the people he meets in other countries in the future exclaiming over his pictures of us as we have over his pictures of Mongolia and Iran.

Later I took him for a little tour of the coast, taking in Union Hall, Glandore, Drombeg stone circle and Warren Strand. We finished off at Rosscarbery pier where we found ourselves on an unexpected ramble over the Downeen headland. At one point we found ourselves staring across a craggy inlet at a little castle perched on an outcrop of rock. It was in deep shadow so no pictures of it came out well, but it's definitely one for a return visit one sunny morning when the light's behind us.

There were fantastic views up there. This one looks across at Owenahincha beach and, to the right, Long Strand. Galley Head is just out of shot to the right.
