Happy New Year to all the wonderful blipper friends and family!

Our New Year's lunch was prepared by my brother, Jan: he cooked a potjie, our traditional way of a stew called potjiekos (pot food).

Prepared in a black iron pot, over coals, a leg of lamb and lamb shanks pot slowly came into being.

After the meat had been browned and cooked for about two to three hours, various vegetables were added and lastly the gravy was slightly thickened,
The leg of lamb, which by now was very tender, was cut up into portions and then served, together with the rest of the pot's contents, on a bed of rice.
The image shows the potjie with the last veggies to be cooked for a few minutes before dishing up.

With additional green beens and sweet potatoes prepared on the stove, a lovely lunch was had.

I must congratulate Jan on his potjiekos, I dont think I have ever tasted a more flavoursome pot!

Carolien, my sis, provided the sweets and since they will shortly be returning home after three weeks at the coast, she needed to 'empty' the holiday apartment's grocery cupboard - all to our sinful, enjoyable detriment!
She prepared peppermint fridge tart and apple crumble and brought along two containers of ice cream. Speak of decadence!

Joey, Jan's wife, added to our misery with a brandy tart that would easily win a gold medal!

Enough said of this indulgence - it was a wonderful day of having my siblings with us - this was a privilege and honour.
