foraging for fungi..

..winter treats for the Woylies (brush tailed Bettong) and the Boodies (Burrowing Bettong).
Nocturnal marsupials, they are increasingly rare because of reduced habitat and introduced predators and there are tiny populations in residence at Kanyana Wildlife Rehabilitation Centre,

J, of the morning walking group and founder of Kanyana, has over the years observed these little animals treating different varieties of fungi in different ways.
No 'funny tummies'...and more... after eating a fickle fungi or a magic mushroom for these canny critters as they have been observed leaving some varieties to dry and even shredding others before eating them.

Once again, nature never ceases to amaze.
