Monday 4 January 2010: Icicles

The world still seems to be on holiday today, although here in sunny Scotland the banks are open again after the New Year break.
The roads outside the city centre are muffled and quiet under the covering of untreated snow. it feels a bit like the days of yore and one could almost imagine a coach and horses driving down the road.
The peacefulness will no doubt be shattered tomorrow when more people return to work.

In my blip today, the beauty of the icicles belies a problem. The connecting plate between two bits of guttering on the roof has corroded and the snow melting on the roof is running through the hole on to a bush outside the portcullis. In fact the whole 8'ft height of the bush is arraigned in icicles and is a constant reminder that we will need a roofer and a considerable amount of money to renew the guttering after the thaw
Of course that might not be till April, but in any case it has become problem #1 for 2010!
