The Roofs of Old York

I had a ride into York this morning with Mum and Dad, principally as a scouting mission to find a location to watch and photograph the Grand Depart of the Tour d' France in July when it passes through York. I have decided on my spot now, but some of the streets and turns that the bikes are going to have to negotiate will make things interesting.

It was strange that on the roads into York there were banners about the Tour, but in the city centre there seemed to be a lack of anything relating to the Tour, other than some yellow bunting in the square outside the Mansion House. Interestingly the bunting was next to a sign which made quite a funny composition and I'm not sure whether its quite 'on message'.

We also had a walk around the Minster and then along the city walls from Bootham Bar to Monk Bar and then a bit further along before the rain finally arrived.

York Minster is such a large impressive building, it is actually very hard to photograph, unless you get a very wide or fish eye lens.

I decided to take this shot from the city walls concentrating on the different roofs of the Minster and the buildings in the gardens around the Minster, and I think it looked better in mono.
