Autumn Duckling

I decided to go into university early rather than just hang around the house. I was at a talk a while ago where the speaker spoke of how with our stimulus filled lives we don’t have time to daydream anymore. This is true, how rarely are we bored these days, if we ever find ourselves becoming bored we end up looking at our phones or tablets. But being bored is important. I’ve found with working on this screenplay that the time I get the best ideas is usually when I’m bored. When you allow yourself the time to be bored it allows your mind to 1) Tell you all the things it’s been trying to tell you during your busy day, and then after those thoughts have been heard it 2) delves down into your subconscious where you can get access to a bunch of good and different ideas and into the section of your brain that deals with problem solving. It’s in these times that you feel like you get struck by inspiration, or you have an epiphany, when in reality you’re just accessing parts of your brain that you usually deny yourself access to due to constant stimulation.

Admittedly it’s easier said than done, it can be surprisingly hard not to pick up your phone and distract yourself. I find it’s best to purposely put yourself into a situation where, basically, you’ll be bored, or if not bored, just have time to think. Wether you go for a run, or meditate, or go to the orchestra, or, in my case, go into work early. All of these situations put you in a place where you don’t have much else to do but think. We’re all thinkers, so it just doesn’t make sense to not give yourself time to do it. No matter what your job is, or what problems you hope to solve, allowing yourself to be bored could be the best way to solve them.

On another note, getting into uni early also allowed me time to get this gorgeous shot. I went across to the Alexandra gardens as I love to do and as I was walking around I looked across at this pond and thought it could be blip worthy. The multicoloured autumn leaves sitting over the blue of the pool looked really nice. Then this little guy swum into my eye line. I’ve never gotten my camera out of my bag so quick! I didn’t need to rush however as this duckling and his multiple siblings were happily swimming around with mum for a while. Uni went well, another tute about our treatments which are due on Wednesday, but did once again leave me with a lot more work to do in editing. Hopefully though it’ll all work to make it better, so now I just have to get it done and solve a few problems. Maybe I’ll go get bored somewhere...
