Laid Up

Still not 100% (see yesterday's post) but at least fortified by a good long sleep on Saturday afternoon and again overnight. Sunday promised to be a busy day at church with a baptism at the first service as well as the dedication of new colours for the local branch of the Royal British Legion.

The church was packed with various military (and ex-military) types and the baptismal party and guests complementing the usual worshippers. The minister did a fantastic job in keeping her concentration, what with all the noise and disruption coming from the younger and more restless of our visitors and the formality expected of a service where old colours are 'laid up' and new colours dedicated. All this, and a second service to follow in another part of the parish 30 minutes later!

Full credit to the Royal British Legion for their turn-out and their bearing, and full credit too to the baptismal family who had agreed to share their special day with the RBL. Not a usual Sunday at Cumbernauld Old, but one that will stay in the memory for a while I suspect. And it was most pleasant to have a degree of normality and relative sanity at our second service.

The photo shows the old colours of the Royal British Legion (Scotland) Cumbernauld Branch 'laid up' as they were during the service.
