Carmunnock Games

Each year at this time the village of Carmunnock, just outside our town, hold Games, with the Scottish Strong Men and lots of different activities and events. We had never been but this year decided to give it a try...... and what a revelation it was.

The first surprise was that it was a really international crowd, there were people from Australia and New Zealand, France,Spain,Bulgaria, The United States and Canada, Germany, and of course people from England and from other parts of Scotland. And they were all enjoying entering into the various competitions.

There was a wedding party there from USA, the groom was of Korean origin and he had a huge contingent of relatives with him....... all in kilts......they tried every single competition. They got married the day before in Edinburgh Castle, and I think they were all still drinking Whisky......They were 'having a ball' in Scotland, they said! They organised a 'tug of war' for them, brides friends against groom's friends...... the groom won!!!!

I have a lot of pictures from today, highland dancers, strong men, throwing the tyre, throwing the wellie, children's races...... just a few of the events.

But I have settled for a picture of the local pipe band, who entertained us between events.
