Hymytyttö Emma

We made it and arrived to school's sports hall on time and got good seats. The whole show was very entertaining. Emma's class band played The Final Countdown and the last number was the polonaise of 6th graders. Emma got a Hymytyttö -award. All in all, this really was emotional evening. We are very proud of our beautiful and kind girl.

In Finland we had an award in schools called the boy/girl of the year. The idea of the award is to reward one boy and one girl per class on good friendship. In Pirkkala that award is granted only for 6th graders. Other qualities of hymypoika/hymytyttö are rectitude, trustworthiness, helpfulness, briskness and happiness. The Hymypoika ( boy of the year ) statues have been distributed since 1954 and since 1955 also a Hymytyttö ( girl of the year ) statues. The competition of good fellowship originally aimed to increase children's social skills. Only pupils had right to vote who is the boy of the year in their class and the winner got the statue.

Leevi had his last exam today and he only has one more school day left this semester. Emma has two. Next Saturday kids will get their reports.
