Glossy ibis in flight

Very exciting today (for a bird nerd anyway) as I saw a glossy ibis while out for a walk at the local wetland. It has apparently been coming for some years if it's the same one, and is known to be at least 16years, which is pretty good for a wild bird. The oldest zoo raised one died at 26.

It is uncommon in NZ with about 50 sightings since 1902, usually of single birds, but occasionally of a small flock.

I had to add it to my collection of three posts not very good photos of birds as I may never see it again!
