Cornflower

The weather today has been lovely - warm with lots of sunshine. Until around 8.30pm - and then the heavens opened. It feels like thunder and lightning might be imminent.

I just had a quiet day at home today - nothing much to report. I did put up a string of solar lights in the cat enclosure. They are shaped like butterflies. Think I will buy another set as they aren't as long as I imagined.

Neil has been here all day and went off home this evening. He had a restful day mostly watching the French Open on TV - and eating chocolate, crisps and Haribo. And drinking cherry cola. What a life.

My blip shows a cornflower in the back garden. It must be a wild one as I don't remember planting any.

In folklore cornflowers were worn by young men in love - if the flower faded too quickly it was taken as a sign that the man's love was not returned.

The blue cornflower has been the national flower of Estonia since 1968 and symbolizes daily bread to Estonians.

In France the Bleuet de France is the symbol of the 11th November 1918 armistice and is a common symbol for veterans similar to the Remembrance poppies worn in the United Kingdom and in Canada.

It was the favorite flower of John F. Kennedy and was worn by his son, John F. Kennedy, Jr. at his wedding in tribute to his father.
