A day packed with delights

Day 3 of my Romanian holiday.

I have had great difficulty in choosing an image from today. We started in an old cemetery before breakfast. The soft low light was magical and there were wild flowers growing through the graves.

We went to see a local market, but found that there was a big mass taking place at the Orthodox Church. The large church was full and about the same number of people were standing in the grounds and the streets all around. The p.a. system was superb.

I went in and observed from the gallery but did not take any photos until the service was over. It was very tempting because the women are on one side and the men on the other. Around the walls were special seats for the very elderly - the women all with their black head scarves and the men with their hats hung up on pegs.

Here you see the congregation leaving at the end. They were out very quickly but the service had been very long!

In th street outside women linked arms and paraded up and down the road. They were all in traditional dress, but young women wore terrifyingly high heels!!

Later we had lunch with the headmaster of a local school in another village. We saw a natural washing machine, distillery and loads of old wooden tools, all demonstrated by our host. His wife produced a delicious lunch.

So far the food has been excellent and used local recipes.

Later still the hostess milked the house cow and later still we explored another village...........

Very very very tired but happy.
